During the years before Crel Riveroad had Incisor created, the wood elves, dryads, and rangers in the forest surrounding the House of the River-road were decimated by the dark forces of Loviatar, as disease coursed not only through the humanoid population, but the forest itself as well.

To prove his worth as Paladin, Crel arrayed his company in battle time and again, holding steady against the onslaught of dark forces. When the time came for the crucial battle to determine the balance of power, Incisor was crafted and blessed, and proved its strength in need by striking into the heart of darkness and rending it with a blood-curdling shriek heard throughout the land.

The tide had turned against the evil upon this victory, and only the hunting down and elimination of scattered and broken factions remained. To personally aid Crel in his effort, a council of elves created a simple scabbard to protect Silvanus' gift against theft and the wear of the elements, and named it Saya to honor their fallen queen.

Many human generations ago, a warrior by the name of Crel spent his life in service of Silvanus, eventually rising to such prominence that he earned the status of Paladin to the god of Nature.

In order that he might better serve his lord and master, he set about the long task of creating a mortal weapon worthy of being wielded by a Paladin, and blessed by his god.

The information necessary to construct such a weapon was spread widely throughout the realms, so Crel created a House in which to gather knowledge, skills, and tools, and sent his most trusted companions out upon the rivers and roads to seek out those with the talents that were needed.

Crel branded his emissaries with the mark of the river-road, so that they might be recognized, and know to trust each other. During the long years of exploration, the House of the River-road grew in prominence as scholars and warriors exchanged information and honed tactics learned in foreign lands.

At length, the finest of weaponsmiths and the most devoted of Silvanus' druids were gathered to the House to shape the finest steel in the land into a sword, and imbue the metal with the strength, power, and purpose of the Champion of Storms.

Legend has it that at the ceremony of creation, the billets were forged by repeated strikes of lightning from howling, hurricane-blackened skies, and hammered by ceaseless driven hail into a shape that showed of nothing less than Tempest's cunning.

The metal was then cooled and strengthened, boiling the waters of the purest, clear cool spring and creating the hardest edge known to men at that time. The druids chanted for the blessing of storms to fall upon the sword, with the result that within the sword is the power of the weapon to cleanse a particular species more effectively. The sword was then fully tempered to relieve the stresses built up within the crafted metal. In reflection of the natural and martial purpose of the sword, it was granted the name Incisor.

The House of the River-road became the seat of training for use in the artifact, passed on to Crel's chosen son, grandson, and great-grandson before his death, and the storehouse of its lore. The mission of the House continued, however, and continues to gather information about the realms to this day.

This scabbard has been constructed of soft magnolia wood, which will not scratch polished steel. Properly seasoned over a decade, it has virtually no sap in it.

It has been worked with a chisel to fit the blade of Incisor loosely, touching only the burnished back edge. The two simple oval halves of the scabbard have been glued together with a rice paste, to create a strong bond that can still be separated at need.

The sharp corners along the top and bottom are beveled to prevent them from being damaged. The wood has been finely polished with a powder, rubbed into the wood surface with pieces of horsetail reed.

Carved into the wood is the Elvish word Saya.

This finely crafted longsword is made of strong, sturdy steel, and is coated in a thin layer of bright silver.

The long blade is shaped like a diamond in cross-section, with a broader back edge than sharp edge, and the tip of the blade has a slightly upswept point. The blade itself has a slight curvature, centered behind its midpoint.

The hardened edge and tip are separated from the rest of the blade by a swirling set of faint lines like the currents of a flowing river. The hardening process has created fine crystalline structures of martensite, which hold a razor edge and shimmer as mist.

By the tang on one face of the blade, a many-limbed branch has been finely engraved. The branch is bare, as in winter. On the obverse, the river-road sigil has been rendered in detail.

A close look at the grain pattern of the blade reveals small whorls created by the use of hammer blows of varying strength during the forging and folding of the original steel billets.

A small collar of silver is fitted at the point where the tang meets the blade. This holds the blade firmly in place in the opening of the scabbard, and prevents the blade from being scratched by only allowing it to slide on its burnished back surface.

Carved in common along the tang is the word "Incisor" on one side, and "Crel Riveroad" on the other. The tang ends in the shape of a woodsman's axe, and three sets of file marks in different directions overlap at the peg hole.

Fitted in advance of the collar is a mithril plate three and a half inches wide which protects the hands of the wielder. The plate has been inlaid in silver with a crescent of cadency.

A handle of bone is firmly pegged to the tang. Fitted at the end of the handle is a piece of mithril also in the shape of a woodsman's axe, used to balance the sword and penetrate armor plate. The gripping of the handle is wrapped in an ornate and complex manner, and the tightly woven silk has been dyed in a very specific pattern and with a particular set of colors.

Incisor has been razor sharpened.
Incisor has been oiled to protect its metal.
Incisor has a freshly wrapped grip granting excellent control.

Opening the curtain reveals an ornate sword in a plain scabbard mounted above an enscribed plaque, surrounded by lengths of gripping and jars of bright dye.

The sword cleaves the air silently. The sword smells of blade oil, and the dyes used in the gripping. The metal of the blade is cool and hard. The sword is so finely balanced is swings effortlessly, and so sharp it slices through leather like paper.

Very thin, long, yet apparently strong strips of woven silk have been stacked in the shelter opposite the jars of dye. The gripping is identical to that on the sword, and you marvel, for dyeing and arranging such a pattern as that must have taken days!

Many jars of potent red, orange, yellow, and green dyes are arranged neatly inside the shelter. They have a strong pungent smell, and taste extremely bitter.

There are metal brushes, rags, weapon oil, and a variety of colorful whetstones designed to protect and enhance the metal and leather of arms and armaments. There are also small nails and leather strips that can be used to form the gripping for weapons, and small studs for leather armor.

The heavy stone wheel is turned by a foot pedal, and small shards of metal glint from its surface. A tourine filled with water sits next to the wheel, and you guess that the wheel is used to sharpen steel edges and polish armor plate.

"Come forth now please, the Church of Silvanus, God of Nature, Weather, and the Sea."

I represent the Church of Silvanus. My name is Nuncio Coralline.

All things within nature are connected within a glorious web of influence. Each facet of nature is connected, if not directly. To honor Lord Silvanus, the members of His church (supplicants and hopeful clerics to His word) have come up with the three Holy Symbols. These will be presented in a manner that portrays Symbioses.

First is the Ironwood Oak Tree, the symbol for the plant. This tree, like all the others, has its own Circle of Life as well as participating in the larger Circle of Life. It starts as an acorn, fallen from a century-old tree nearby. The acorn itself will either grow to become another tree or it will become the food for forest animals like squirrels and chipmunks. These Ironwood Oak Trees are also seen as a symbol of the strength of Silvanus. Some say that the branches reach for the sky, in constant worship to Silvanus. When they succumb to the years of age and finally die, their death still serves a purpose by providing nourishment to the forest floor.

Second is the Wolf, the symbol for the animal. The Wolf is a Hunter. Whether hunting alone or in a pack, they are very skilled at this. The Wolf does not care for those not in its pack, just as Silvanus only cares about His worshipers and His realm. The Wolf does not waste anything, hunting only enough to feed itself or its pack. Wolves are also very loyal, they are loyal to their pack just as Silvanites are loyal to the balance of nature. The Wolf can use the fallen Ironwood Oak Tree to hide from its prey.

Third is the Mushroom, the symbol for food. Mushrooms can live practically anywhere. They can be found in caves, in open fields and meadows, and under the growth of the forests. The mushroom is also seen as proof of life that feeds off death. Death is just as intricate to the balance of nature as life is, for these two go hand in hand. From the death of the Ironwood Oak Tree and the death of the kills of the Wolf, the mushroom has sprung forth. Mushrooms are edible, which in turn provide food for forest animals. And then some of them have been found poisonous, which is a living testament to the dark side of nature.

Thus we Silvanites have chosen the Symbiotic essence of nature by choosing the Ironwood Oak Tree, the Wolf, and the Mushroom.

Silvanus echoes: The choices of My Followers are quite fitting to My Nature. I am well-pleased with the Holy Symbols of My Church. My Wild Children, carry these symbols close to your heart and make them known to all.
